Helped get me a 97......

I recently moved to the US and had to take my Registry exam (I haven't worked as an X-Ray tech since 1996 and my DCR exam was back in 1984!). I used this book along with Lang's Q&A to prepare. As most of the subject matter is different to the stuff I learnt (especially radiation protection and digital imaging) and uses other parameters/centering points/terminology.I found these two books the ONLY thing I needed: as the title says, I just got 97 on the registry exam!

the book is really good.it provided summaries and very good questions.I had to return it because this kindle version didn't come with a code to sign for the online questions which was the reason I bought the book for.I would rather pay a little more for the paper version and get a code to access the online bank of questions.

AMAZING!

This book hands down is all you need to study for the registry. I got that stupid yellow book and it was such a waste of money. If you need something that will literally take you step by step through tough stuff like physics then this is the book for you. It also has pictures and bullet points of review for each chapter. I wish I had used this all through my last semester instead of that dumb yellow book because in the 2-3 weeks I had this before the registry it literally changed my life. GET THIS BOOK!

Excellent source of information for lefties and righties

I purchased this along with the Modern Contemporary Calligraphy Beginner Kit. I am so glad that I purchased the Leftie book. Even if I wasn't left handed this book explained so much more than the Kit and it's few pages of instruction. It took only about an hour or so to read the Leftie book and really made a lot of sense out of everything that goes into making these beautiful letters. I have a background in desktop publishing so many of the terms and ideas were very familiar to me and made the reading easy. Another thing is that this book identified what sort of nib a left handed person needs (oblique) whereas the other book said a leftie really doesn't need a different a different nib. Opinions differ here. I've not started practicing yet with the right-handed nibs I have so I can't yet comment. But I've found a slew of Speedball oblique nibs at www.paperinkarts.com. (Amazon doesn't sell them.) The right vs. left comes down to this: a rightie pulls her pen across the page, so a sharp-tipped nib is okay. But a leftie pushes her nib across the page making it likely that she will rip the page with a sharp-tipped nib depending on how much pressure she applies. And there are other considerations also, like being able to see where the ascending and descending parts of an "o" or "a" will meet up, for example. Therefore, if you order the Modern Contemporary Calligraphy Beginner Kit, too, which comes with some great practice pages and sample projects, know that you will not get the oblique nib that a leftie might need. You need to order that separately.

Perfect for lefties

Our daughter is left handed and was going through a calligraphy section in art class. She was disappointed that her letters never came out right. Even though the teacher assured me that the techniques are the same for both right and left handed writers, I got this book for her and she was able to see how to do things correctly. It got to the point where she would nod politely at the instructions, look in her book and do it perfectly.

Finally, Help for Left Handed Writers

I didn't buy this book to become an impressive calligrapher. I bought the book because I was seeking help in my penmanship with only a casual interest in calligraphy and, as a lefty, this book looked promising. I was not disappointed. A major strength of the book is that it doesn't patronize us lefties, and could easily be modified for right-handed writers. The author doesn't explain how to cope as a lefty, but presents the full topic as though all writers were left-handed. This focused approach makes the book invaluable to the left-handed writer who wants a meaningful book on calligraphy, and not just a supplement to a book for right-handed writers. The book also presents history of calligraphy and other supportive background information. Overall, a nice reference and the size, at 64 pages, is perfect for my needs. A person seeking professional status may need much much more, but this is a great introductory and basic text.

Scarre directs the story along two main routes: the surviving annals of classical historians like Tacitus, Suetonius, or Eusebius, and photographic features of the outstanding buildings put up by the emperors, such as Vespasian's Colosseum. The result is a text winding around many interesting sidebars, maps, and busts of emperors, rendering an effect attractive both to those who know the Roman saga by heart and to those whose ideas of it came from the I, Claudius TV series. The temptation to classify the rulers as good or bad, to which the TV show succumbed, is one Scarre successfully resists by pointing out the senatorial or Christian biases of the contemporary historians. In any event, the job of First Citizen, whether capably or incompetently discharged, came with a high mortality rate, which Scarre delineates, as numerous ignominious endings mark civil wars and dynastic successions. Chronicle of the Roman Emperors is the first book to focus on the succession of rulers of imperial Rome, using timelines and other visual aids throughout. Now no one need be in any doubt as to who built the Colosseum or when Rome was sacked by the Goths: the Chronicle provides the answers, quickly and authoritatively. This is only one aspect, however, of the book's value. The biographical portraits of the 56 principal emperors from Augustus to Constantine, together with a concluding section on the later emperors, build into a highly readable single-volume history of imperial Rome. Colorful contemporary judgments by writers such as Suetonius and Tacitus are balanced by judicious character assessments made in the light of modern research. The famous and the infamous - Caligula and Claudius, Trajan and Caracalla - receive their due, while lesser names emerge clearly from the shadows for the first time. In addition to timelines detailing major events, each emperor is introduced by a coin portrait, a bust and a datafile listing key information, such as name at birth, full imperial titles, and place and manner of death. Excellant, detailed and thorough coverage of all the Roman emperors.

My review title pretty much says it all. Especially interesting was the family information as well as the timelines, maps and illustrations (all in a nutshell). I had read several full-lenth historical biographies trying to trace the family connections. Marriages were arranged often for political or inheritance purposes and there was a lot of inbreeding of a small social class. Notable was Tiberius (stepson of Augustus) who was ordered to divorce his dearly loved first wife to marry Augustus' daughter (something he never really got over). Also shorter male lifespans resulted in multiple remarriages further complicating things. This book is amazingly concise AND complete for it's size and also manages to include sketches of other prominant people of the day as well as each emperor's most famous construction projects.

Wonderful Explanation of Roman Emperors!

I read a lot of history, and whenever Roman emperors were mentioned, my knowledge felt a little lacking. After carefully reading this book and taking notes, I feel like I have a whole new weapon in my arsenal. Every emperor is given a decent explanation, and it did an excellent job of rounding out my knowledge and refreshing my memory. I wish Scarre would cover the whole history of the empire that succinctly.

Very thorough and surprisingly readable.

This book gives a very thorough, surprisingly readable and commendably balanced look at the succession of Roman emperors from Augustus through Romulus Augustulus. The subject may be considered rather dry for most readers, and I won't claim that someone not inherently interested in the subject matter could find themselves captivated by this book, but for a reader who has voluntarily chosen to read up on the subject, this book does a very good job of keeping the information coming at a pace that is slow enough to be comprehensible but fast enough to avoid tedium.

It is also true that the author does a fine job of identifying bias in the reports of the most common sources of this history, so that this book provides a history that acknowledges the reports of both pagan and Christian historians, but does not blindly accept what either group has to say about emperors who they either demonize or deify. This is a very worthwhile practice, and so overall the book is a very helpful primer for a novice on the subject.

I love vegetables, but I never seem to have any ...

I love vegetables, but I never seem to have any great ideas for preparing them or what at all to do with some of the more uncommon one. This book fills a much needed gap. There is a great section on different vegetables, how to store, cut etc. It also gives a great chart for making stock and another for pesto! Then the recipes are divided by type, which makes it easy to find when you are working with a specific vegetable: tomatoes and peppers, leafy greens, peas and beans, bulbs and stems, roots and tubers, melons and gourds, and flowers and herbs. I also found the recipes to be very interesting and not overly complicated. You will find recipes for all courses such as skillet eggs poached in serrano tomato, chard steak hummus, kickin broccoli mac and cheese, fennel apple and celery slaw, roasted beet and carrot salad with creamy goat cheese, watermelon rind kimchi, zucchini noodles with roasted tomatoes, pesto and pinenuts, bibimbap, drunken pumpkin chili and all in herb dressing. Everything sounds delicious and you can find something to do with almost anything you bring home or receive in your CSA box. While it has a good index, its not great. That is the only flaw that I have found with the book.

This Is The Book I've Been Waiting For!

I decided to buy this book as a birthday gift to myself and I'm so glad that I did! I love the way this book is structured. Linda starts with the basics, and one of the topics she covered was how to actually store veggies so they last as long as possible. I always forget how to properly store produce so it's nice to have this information handy.

I also enjoy the fresh approach of categorizing recipes by produce such as leafy greens, bulbs and stems, roots & tubers. Flipping through the pages, I'm excited to start cooking. These recipes don't look complicated, but the finished meals look like they came from an expert chef. If you're not familiar with some of the food items (e.g., pickled nasturtium pods), Linda explains how to use them and what to pair them with. And although the focus of the book is on veggies, many of the recipes incorporate meat so you have many meal options. All of the meals just look amazingly comforting and hearty. The pictures in the book are stunning!

This book made me really appreciate the versatility of vegetables. Linda shows you that veggies are more than just ingredients in a salad or sauté. As someone who likes to garden, it's empowering to know how I can really take advantage of all parts of a vegetable. This is the way I want to eat!

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves gardening or using fresh produce from a CSA or farm market. There are so many easy, different and inventive things I can't wait to try!

Developing Writing Skills in French is an excellent book. It's written entirely in French

Developing Writing Skills in French is an excellent book. It's written entirely in French. The written exercises start off being fairly easy and then become progressively more difficult as you go along. So far I've only completed the first ten exercises. However there are a total of of one hundred exercises in the book. In my opinion this book is well worth the price I paid for it. The only thing I wish the author would have done differently is put the answers for each exercise after each exercise, rather than compiling them all into one section at the end of the book. Use of a French-English dictionary or access to one on the Internet is a must for working through this book.
