About the Author
Sir Thomas Malory was a knight and estate owner in the mid 15th century, who spent many years in prison for political crimes as well as robbery. He wrote Le Morte d’Arthur, the first great English prose epic, while imprisoned in Nwgate. The epic was published in 1485 by William Caxton, the first English printer. Malory is believed to have died in 1471.

Keith Baines Translation: Signet Classis

In a nutshell, I think the Keith Baines translation is an excellent edition for the lay reader, high school student, or first-time Le Morte D'Arthur reader who wants to enjoy the essence of Malory's work. Baines' translation is fluid and makes Arthurian Legend accessible and enjoyable for the modern reader.

Although the Baines edition does lack the style and diction of Malory's Middle English, within its pages you will find all of the characters and events that make Malory's work so rich and exciting: the story of young Arthur and his mentor, Merlin; the treacherous Morgan le Fay, the adventures of Arthur and his Knights, the Tale of the SanGreal(Quest of the Holy Grail), the Fisher King, the tragic Elaine, Launcelot and Gwynevere, and the final battle between Arthur and Mordred.

I use the Baines translation to teach an overview of Arthurian Legend to college-prep. senior high school students (British Lit.), and I couldn't imagine using another edition of Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur at that level. (Of note, excerpts from this Baines translation appear widely in high-school textbooks because it is so accessible).

If you are an advanced student and require a scholarly treatment of Malory's text in Middle English, this is not the edition for you.

For a beginner in the Arthurian legends,

This book is wonderful. I'd never had so much as a hint of understanding about these tales until I came across Heather Dale. Her songs sparked my interest and I immediately went in search of articles and explanations. I came across this book and ordered it first thing. I haven't been able to put it down, and though I'm just barely in the middle of "The book of Sir Tristram of Lyoness." I've become obsessed. Just recently ordered another book on it, and read articles as often as I can. Though I'll admit the books not for everyone, as it can be a little bland to some. There was once or twice my eyes were reading and my mind was elsewhere, though that's not all that uncommon. Final word: It's a wonderful book, and if you're into these types of things, I highly suggest you get it. (:

Great read, do not be intimidated.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who had always wanted to finish reading it herself. I enjoyed growing up a lot of the stories of Arthur and this book was a real surprise. It's written almost like a detailed playbook of events. Very very well done and easy to read. For some reason people seemed intimidated by the size of the book and its being translated. Great book, still re-read on occasion.

About the Author

Philip Kiameh, M.A.Sc., B.Eng., D.Eng., P.Eng., has been a teacher at the University of Toronto, Canada, for 18 years. Great engineering reference book

This text is an excellent, concisely written review of the operation and maintenance of a wide range of power plant equipment, useful for not only power plant engineers but also as a general handbook for mechanical engineers.

The author incorporates an excellent chapter on economics of power plant operation. The text has numerous tables, graphs, and illustrations which greatly assist in the comprehension of the subject matter, and the mathematics is not too abstract or overwhelming.

An excellent book overall.

Great Book for Anyone...almost

I rented this book because it was required in the class I took with Dr. Poole and wish I had purchased it instead. So I am, and I'm also getting it for a relative with a background in American Studies. It is informative as to the place of the Devil specifically and of religion generally in America from its roots onward and encompasses history, politics, psychology, entertainment, and art. There are even sections on comic books, if that's your forte. The author, who writes simply with a touch of humor, makes little pretense on how he feels about the negative aspects of religion in America; so a reader might not want this if h/she is ultra-conservative and doesn't want his feathers ruffled. In other words, buy this if you are open to new ideas and slants, want to learn, be informed, and...perhaps...have your vision of America changed.

Good book for beginners

I am enjoying the book and learning a lot. However, I have the Kindle version and many of the charts and tables are un-readable in this format, and there are a lot of them. If you are thinking about purchasing this book I would recommend the hard-cover version so you can read the charts and tables.

It doesn't give you a complete LSS education but that would be too much to ask for from a "For Dummies" book. It gives a very good overview of the important concepts and it directs you to resources where you can learn more. There is a lot of statistical analysis involved in LSS and the book doesn't include too much related to that. If you want a broad overview of the concepts or you're looking to review, then this is a great resource. If you're looking for the complete story on LSS then you should take a class or at least get some more detailed textbooks. But if you don't want to spend a ton of money then this is good enough.
